Sahar V. Jaffrey, DDS, MS, INC
Diplomate, American Board of Pediatric Dentistry
Dr. Jaffrey is a board certified pediatric dentist and diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. Dr. Jaffrey received her training at the University of Damascus and the Oregon Health Sciences University. She also earned her Master of Science degree in Teaching Health Education from Portland State University.
Dr. Jaffrey completed her Pediatric Dental Residency at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) School of Dentistry and at Children’s Hospital in Oakland, CA.
She is currently a faculty member at her alma mater, the UCSF School of Dentistry, where she enjoys teaching residents in the Pediatric Dentistry Program.
In addition to her private dental practice, Dr. Jaffrey loves to give back to the San Francisco Bay Area community by volunteering—her work in helping underprivileged children was recognized by the California Dental Association in their publication, “CDA Update.”
Dr. Jaffrey is a member of the American and California Dental Associations, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the California Society of Pediatric Dentistry. She was elected a member of the Board of Directors of the Contra Costa Dental Society and is currently the President Elect of Contra Costa Dental Society. She is also on Staff at John Muir Hospital and Children’s Hospital, Oakland, where she treats young and/or compromised patients. Additionally, she works with experienced pediatric anesthesiologists to sedate fearful patients who need complicated dental procedures in the office.
A longtime Walnut Creek resident, Dr. Jaffrey continues to explore all the Bay Area has to offer; some of her favorite places to frequent are the Lafayette Reservoir, local Farmer’s Markets, and, of course, downtown Walnut Creek. She also enjoys playing tennis, golfing, and traveling. Most of all, Dr. Jaffrey loves spending time with her family in this amazing community.
Dr. Zahra Hosseini-Miyashiro, DDS
Diplomate, American Board of Pediatric Dentistry
Dr. Zahra (as her patient’s know her) is a Bay Area native, who grew up in Moraga and graduated from Campolindo HS. She earned a B.S. in Physiology from SFSU and her DDS degree from UCSF School of Dentistry in 1999.
While at UCSF, Dr. Zahra was active in serving as class secretary, treasurer of the ASDC, and organizing and participating in several outreach programs and clinics for underserved children. She found her passion in caring for children and was awarded the ASDC Student Certificate of Merit in 1999.
Dr. Zahra pursued her specialty training in pediatric dentistry at USC. She obtained extensive experience in treating patients with special needs, complex medical, and behavioral issues. She received advanced education in conscious sedation and treatment of patients with complex dental procedures needing general anesthesia.
Dr. Zahra is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and is a member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, American Dental Association, California Dental Association, Contra Costa Dental Society, and California Society of Pediatric Dentistry.
Dr. Zahra enjoys spending time with her family, especially doing outdoor activities with her two sons.
Dr. Adam Shaffer, DDS, MS
Dr. Adam Shaffer is a board certified pediatric dentist. He earned his undergraduate degree from UC Berkeley and his Doctor of Dental Surgery from UCLA. He then obtained a Master of Science in Oral and Craniofacial Biology from UCSF, and concurrently completed his specialty training in pediatric dentistry at UCSF and Children’s Hospital Oakland. His research focus as a dental resident was in the utilization and safety of oral sedation medications in pediatric dentistry.
In addition to working in private practice, Dr. Shaffer has additionally worked as an assistant clinical professor at UCSF in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry, teaching both pre-doctoral students and dental residents. He has also lectured to pediatricians and pediatric dentists on topics ranging from dental trauma to emergency protocols in the dental office. He has also spent time treating underserved patients abroad, traveling to both Honduras and Fiji for dental outreach trips.
Dr. Shaffer is a member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the California Society of Pediatric Dentistry, the American Dental Association, the California Dental Association, and the Contra Costa Dental Society.
Born and raised in Alameda, CA, Dr. Shaffer is proud to call the Bay Area his home and enjoys running, cycling, snowboarding, and rooting for the San Francisco Giants and Golden State Warriors. He also enjoys going to the beach and spending time with his wife, his son, and his dog, Buster.
Dr. Alex Malebranche, DDS, MS
Dr. Malebranche completed her undergraduate and dental degrees at the University of Pennsylvania and Columbia University before returning home to the Bay Area for her speciality training in pediatric dentistry. At UCSF, she earned an MS in Oral and Craniofacial Sciences in addition to her pediatric dentistry certificate.
While at UCSF, Dr. Malebranche was named a global clinic scholar and participated in collaborative program in the School of Medicine. As a global clinical scholar, she completed her Master’s research project aimed at improving a dental caries prevention program in Honduras. She has also traveled to Guatemala, Cambodia, and the Philippines on dental externships providing preventive and clinical dental care to children in need. Dr. Malebranche went to Washington D.C. to meet with our Northern California Representatives and Senators to advocate for children’s oral health care needs while serving as the Warren Brandli intern to the California Society of Pediatric Dentists executive board.
At UCSF she organized volunteer activities for residents and dental students to bring oral health screenings and free dental care to disadvantaged children in the Bay Area. During her last year of residency, she was recognized by the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry for volunteerism and child advocacy as a resident.
Dr. Malebranche is a member of the American Dental Association, California Dental Association, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the California Society of Pediatric Dentistry. Outside of the dental office, Dr. Malebranche enjoys running, working out with her friends, spending time with her family, especially her super cute niece and nephew.
Dr. Brett Martin, DDS, MS
Dr. Brett Martin was born and raised in Sacramento, California. He graduated with a B.S. in biological sciences, with an emphasis in molecular and cellular biology from UC Davis. He then completed his dental studies at UCLA, where he received his D.D.S. degree. During his time at UCLA, he was one of the founding members of the national Student Professional and Ethics Association (SPEA), which is responsible for promoting high ethical standards in the field of dentistry.
While volunteering at Give Kids a Smile and an underserved pediatric dental clinic, Dr. Martin found his passion for pediatric dentistry. Dr. Martin completed his pediatric specialty training at UCSF, where he also received a M.S. degree in oral and craniofacial biology. Besides being an avid sports fan, Dr. Martin could not be more excited to work in the Bay Area. Outside the dental office, Dr. Martin enjoys spending time with his family and friends, hiking, and golfing.
Dr. Martin is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and is a member of the American Dental Association, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, and the California Society of Pediatric Dentistry.
Our associate doctors are independent contractors, our staff members are either Registered Dental Assistants or Registered Dental Hygienists with a special interest in children, including those with special needs.
